Guitar Story
In 1970, Avnet, Inc. controlled the Guild name. Its one line on record was built at Guild Hoboken and Guild Westerly (USA).[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
A Guild guitar from 1970 belongs to whichever era was running on its product line that year. An era is a stretch when the company that controlled the name and the plant that built the line both stayed the same. If you know the line, the table below tells you which version of Guild you have. The name dates from 1952[S002, 2, S217], 18 years before.
| Line | Controlled by | Parent | Built at | Era | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guild USA | Avnet, Inc. | — | Guild Hoboken Hoboken, NJ, USA[8] | 1966–1971 | secondary[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] |
| Guild USA | Avnet, Inc. | — | Guild Westerly Westerly, RI, USA[9] | 1967–1986 | secondary[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7] |
Nothing changed in 1970. Every era running that year carried on from an earlier year, so a Guild from 1970 is the same version as one from 1969.
